Paleochora is the southernmost seaside town in the Prefecture of Chania located 76 km far from Chania town
at the southwest coastline of Crete and it’s built on a small peninsula of 400m width and 700m length. Paleochora is famous for its mild climate and its beaches, which are awarded with blue flags every year as a result of following the International Rules about the protection of Nature. Paleochora is now inhabited by approximately 2500 people. The landscape is magnificent and this area offers a large variety of hotels, rooms and hostels at the best prices & for all tastes. It is said that in Paleochora you can find the best coastlines of Crete. Best time to visit Paleochora is in the summer. The season extends from April to October when the temperature range is from 25-38 degrees.

Paleochora is popular with most age groups. Families are attracted by the sandy beach and clear blue sea.
The Libyan Sea wets its coasts of 11km length. It is the capital town of the municipality of Pelekanos, in the province of Selino and its population is 2213 Paleochora’s economy is based in tourism and in agriculture (mainly tomatoes cultivated in glass-houses and also the production of olive-oil). It is a relaxing holiday place since early 70’s, when
it was a famous hippies’ center. Nowadays Paleochora is one of the fastest growing tourist towns in Crete.

Paleochora is Crete’s gateway to the Libyan Sea. It is one of the most beautiful towns in Chania with extremely good weather where the summer lasts for over five months! Here, you will literally feel at home through the kindness and friendliness of the people, you will taste the delicious local cuisine while the beauty of the sea and scenery will literally sweep you away. The picturesque village is located on a small northern peninsula surrounded by two exquisite beaches with sand and pebbles. On the other side, there is a rocky area and the marina. The distance between Chania and Paleochora is a 75 klm drive enriched with the wild beauty that the Cretan scenery has to offer.

The coastline around Paleochora stretches for 18 kilometers offering a vast variety of beautiful beaches waiting to be discovered. To the west, the notorious and exquisitely beautiful “Pachia Ammos” beach’s sands are interrupted by a few wild rocks. Should you choose to go east, do not forget to visit the beach called Chalikia. Both beaches are surrounded by verdant little trees called salt cedars and every year they are awarded with the EU blue flag for the quality standards that they both have. Also on the east is “Sougia” beach and in close proximity the uniquely beautiful and famous “Elafonisi” and “Balos” beaches. The daily life rhythm of Paleochora is ideal for summer vacationing. During the day you can enjoy pleasant conversations with the local people in petit, traditional cafes and taste the delicious Cretan cuisine in any one of the numerous taverns. At night, enjoy one of the low key clubs.

A true paradise for nature-lovers, Paleochora has numerous paths waiting to be explored but also unique gorges such as Agia Irini, Topoliana and last but not least the notorious Samaria gorge.
