West of Chora Sfakion in the south east of Crete you can find the quiet village of Loutro. The village was named after the baths (Loutro) found in the area, and from which water was directed to nearby Anopoli. Today the village of Loutro is a great attraction for tourists, especially for other Cretans who escape the crowded and noisy northern regions of Crete, for peace, fun, and relaxation. Loutro is their secret holiday hideaway not yet discovered by the average tourist, take for example the experience of the small island of Tenerife where Tenerife holidays were known to only a handful of tourists back then. The few foreign tourists that have visited Loutro most likely first got a glimpse of the village while on the ferry boat traveling between Agia Roumeli and Sfakia, and decided that it was a place they had to return to for a holiday. Best time to visit Loutro is in the summer. The season extends from April to October when the temperature range is from 25-38 C. Loutro boasts around 10/12 tavernas, a few bars and just three small shops and for much of the year it remains a quiet backwater. However be warned, it is popular with Greeks and in high season. The majestic scenery, beauty, crystal clear waters, friendly people and peacefulness makes
Loutro village the perfect choice for an unforgettable holiday. Loutro is a place for those want something different.
