Summer in Crete begins in June. The period June to September sees almost no rainfall and average
temperatures of around 25 ºC. Daytime temperature in mid summer is often in the low 30s, though can sometimes reach up to 40 ºC. Summer 2002 saw the mercury rise to a stifling 45 ºC. June guarantees to get good weather in Crete. The sea is warmer, there are still a lot of flowers, not too many tourists. It is maybe the best time of the year to visit Crete, especially if you intend to hike as the weather in June isn't too hot yet. Best time to sit at the beach, swim and play. Refreshing sea breezes. Always remember your sunscreen and hat, sit in the shade and take plenty of fluids. Perhaps take a day to head inland to the mountain Cretan villages – always an excellent choice with breathtaking views. Crete's outdoor life is just beginning but bring a sweater, it can still be cool in the evenings.

Rain in Crete is virtually unheard of from mid June to September. May & early June are ideal for walking, gardening, swimming etc (although pool water temperatures can be low). May and October can be very hot but with occasional three or four day spells of rain and overcast skies. If you are looking for wall to wall sunshine to top up your tan you may be unlucky in early May & late October if you are only here for a single week, - however if you are able to come for a fortnight you are sure to go home well tanned. November and December, as well as April are the months preferred by many ex-Pats. Temperatures are cooler but the days are mainly sunny. During these months there is no need to take an afternoon siesta and many people can be seen out walking or doing work on their villas and gardens. January, February and early March can be a little cold and very damp, however there will still be many warm sunny days. The Crete tourist authorities promise visitors 300 days of sunshine a year. That leaves around 65 days a year for rain and cloud - much of that will be in January & February
