Agia Galini has become today a well-known and lively holiday destination on the south coast, about 50ml from Heraklion, 75 miles from Chania and just over 35 miles from Rethymnon. Situated on a steep hill a little north of Matala. Agia Galini has been able to preserve much of its charm and is surely one of the most attractive places in the south of Crete. It seems to consist of mainly hotels and tavernas along bougainville covered steep steps up the hill. Visited by busloads of tourists Agia Galini still a place with atmosphere though. Best time to visit Agia Galini is
in the summe (April to October) when the temperature range is from 25-38 degrees. This picturesque seaside
village invites you to stroll through the lanes, linger in one of the numerous cafes, or be pampered in one of the cozy tavernas. The white-washed houses and hotels are clustered on hills surrounding the port, giving mostly uninterrupted views over the Lybian Sea. The beach at Agia Galini is small when you consider the number of people who expect to use it. It lies to the east of the village. There are also restaurants, tavernas, bars &f olk art shops.
